How to make a custom cookie cutter for a 3D printer
- Pick a picture or type text. Choose a PNG, JPG or WebP (line drawings, logos and clip art on a plain background work best), or type a word or name.
- Set the cookie size. Enter the cookie width in millimetres. 60–90 mm is a normal cookie; the cutter height defaults to 15 mm.
- Check the outline and stamp. The generator closes tiny notches the dough can't follow. If your image has inside details, it also makes a mirrored embossing stamp that fits inside the cutter.
- Download the cookie cutter STL. Download the cutter (and stamp) as STL files and open them in Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer.
- Print flat with no supports. Print rim side down at 0.2 mm layers. Wash by hand in warm soapy water.
Questions
Can I turn any image into a cookie cutter STL?
Yes. Clear shapes work best: silhouettes, line drawings, logos and clip art. Photos work if the subject stands out from the background; use the threshold setting to pick the outline you want.
Is this cookie cutter generator really free?
Yes. The cookie cutter maker is free for personal use with no sign-up. If you sell printed cutters, get a Commercial License.
Are 3D printed cookie cutters food safe?
Plain PLA isn't certified food-safe. It's fine for a few minutes on dough, but for regular use print in a food-contact filament and wash by hand, not in the dishwasher.
What size and wall thickness should a 3D printed cookie cutter have?
A 15 mm tall cutter with a 1.2 mm wall and a 0.8 mm cutting edge works for most dough. Keep cookie parts wider than about 6 mm so they don't break.
